Noda village, where IZUMITA Yukiya (owner of Noda kiln) is located, is in the norther part of Iwate prefecture. It is blessed with nature and a nice view of the Pacific Ocean seen from the Sanriku coast.
Kuji city, the neighboring area of the village, has been known as the production of “Kokuji-yaki” and IZUMITA had training for becoming pottery.
After an apprenticeship under a Kokuji-yaki master, he opened in 1995 his own kiln “Noda-gama” in the village.
In 1998, he started firing with an anagama (hole kiln*) using local clay. His products vary from practical miscellaneous goods for daily life to dynamic objects.
